FAQ

  • I don't know what voice type I am so am confused about which course I should buy.
The choir is divided into 3 vocal parts - Soprano, Alto, Tenor. It's really only a label to put people into singing groups, with the Soprano part being the highest vocal line, the Tenor the lowest and the Alto sitting in the middle of the choir. This is pop singing so vocal ranges and vocal application are different to traditional/classical choirs. If you are unsure about your vocal part, please email info@savagesingingsessions.com for sample audio recordings of each part so you can pick the one that suits your voice the best.
  • Where will the next adult choir take place?
Location National College of Ireland Mayor Street IFSC Dublin 1 *Please note we only hire the venue and are not affiliated to National College of Ireland or any of its courses
  • Do I need to read sheet music?
No you don't! Róisín teaches by ear so you don't need to read sheet music and it is not given out to any of our singers. Singers are given access to line-tapes, the guide rehearsal tracks of the individual vocal parts, that are updated each week the day following each session.

  • I've never sang in a choir before, can I join?
We move at a fast pace so it might not be for absolute beginners to group singing. If you have never sang in a contemporary pop choir before, or are not used to singing in harmony, learning by ear, or singing from memory, it might be a big leap for you to jump into this. We certainly don't want to discourage anyone but if you are unsure, we would advise you to check out Casual Choir first, a one song, one session choir directed by MD Róisín Savage before signing up to a full course. • I registered for a course but didn't get an information email. What do I do?
Please email info@savagesingingsessions.com and we will forward on all the relevant details to you.
  • I can't attend every session - can I still join the course?
We understand that people can miss a session on occasion but that's ok! We'll have line tapes (guide vocal recordings) for all the vocal parts that will be updated weekly for our singers so if you are missing a session, you can catch-up at home. We don't recommend missing any more than two or three sessions in one course if you wish to take part in our final recording.
  • Do you have the dates for future courses/events?
Our next course commences on Wednesday April 26th (7.30 - 9pm) For more information, please email info@savagesingingsessions.com to join our mailing list.

  • I'm a female tenor - is that OK?
Yes of course it is! You can choose to sing in any part that suits your voice - once you sing at the pitch of that part and not an octave higher/lower!
  • I am a bass/baritone - can I still join?
The vocal parts are really just labels to divide the choir into high, mid-range and low voices. The Tenor vocal line is probably more of a Baritone range (in the traditional sense) and when it gets to the high notes, we split into Tenor 1 and Tenor 2 so lower voices have an option. We don't have a separate Bass part but there are times singers can utilise this part of their range when we sing a song in unison. If you wish to listen to some samples of the different vocal lines, please email info@savagesingingsessions.com
  • I am a classical singer - will this choir suit me?
Our course is for pop singers. If you can only sing in a classical vocal style, you may find it difficult to adjust to pop singing as the voice application/technique is different. If you wish to listen to some samples of the different vocal lines, please email info@savagesingingsessions.com
